It's one of the questions we hear most, worded differently each time, but always the same idea: "my hair looks fine in the morning, but by mid-afternoon it's flat, sitting close to the scalp, with none of the volume it had when I left the house." It's not in your head. And it's not (only) about the haircut, or about needing more hold.
In most cases, it's about a step that's missing before any styling happens: base hydration.
The most common mistake: going straight for the styling product
The typical routine is to wash your hair and, while it's still damp or already dry, apply a clay, wax or oil directly. The style looks good in the moment, but the hair underneath is still dry, with no structure of its own. That lack of structure is why the product ends up sitting on top instead of being supported from underneath, and why everything seems to collapse a few hours in.
A shampoo cleans. A styling product holds or adds texture. Neither one hydrates in a way that prepares the hair to hold up through the day: that's where the leave-in comes in, and it's probably the most underrated step in a men's hair routine.
What actually changes
A well-formulated leave-in hydrates without weighing hair down: the idea isn't to leave hair damp or "wet-looking", it's to give it back the base hydration that's usually lost when you towel-dry or blow-dry. Hydrated hair has more elasticity and more natural body; dry hair tends to sit closer to the scalp, is harder to lift at the root, and is more prone to "falling" throughout the day even with a styling product on top.
That's the actual difference between hair with life and flat hair: it's not how much styling product you use, it's whether the hair underneath has the structure to hold it up.
Our Nº2: Base
That's why Nº2: Base, our leave-in, is the fixed second step of the Kóme routine, right after the shampoo. It's a light, fast-absorbing formula, built specifically to not weigh hair down or leave an oily finish, applied to damp hair, before any oil, clay or styling cream, so hair dries with more body and is easier to work with.
It doesn't replace styling. It sets the ground for it. It's the difference between building on a solid base or trying to hold everything up with the final product alone.
